Zhenyuanopterus longirostris

A bizarre pterosaur from the Early Cretaceous Yixian Formation of China. Zhenyuanopterus is characterized by its very long, Gharial-like jaws and needle-like teeth; which suggest a piscivorous diet. It may have lived on the edges of forest lakes, sifting through the water like an Ibis/Spoonbill, until snaring up small fish and other aquatic animals with its trap-like jaws. Zhenyuanopterus is one of the only known members of the Pterosaur family Boreopteridae; and it has been suggested that the animal represents an adult form of another pterosaur: Boreopterus.
